Fire Protection Engineering

The Postbaccalaureate Program in Fire Protection Engineering offers two areas of interest with coursework focused in Fire Protection Systems Design or Quantitative Methods of Performance Based Design. See Plan of Study for required courses in each Area of Interest.

• Courses are taught by University of Maryland (UMD) faculty and professionals in the field.
• Features online learning using advanced audio and video technology, UMD’s online learning environment delivers dynamic and interactive content.
• The program follows the semester academic calendar with classes held in the spring and fall semesters (16 weeks each).

Upon successful completion of the Postbaccalaureate Program in Fire Protection Engineering, students will have developed the core competencies needed to advance in Fire Protection Engineering.

• Apply the skills and knowledge to practice engineering and/or perform research in the field of fire protection engineering.
• Continuously improve their skills, e.g, with continuing education, professional licensure/certification, or a graduate degree.
• Demonstrate their dedication to the protection and enhancement of public safety, health and welfare, and the environment.
• Uphold and advocate for professional behavior.
