Master of Public Health in Global, Environmental, and Occupational Health

The Master of Public Health in Global, Environmental, and Occupational Health, Online (GEOH) is offered through the Department of Global, Environmental, and Occupational Health in the School of Public Health. The fully asynchronous online program equips students to engage in the science, theory, and practice of interconnected global, environmental, and occupational health needs, challenges and opportunities.

Overview

The Master of Public Health in Global, Environmental, and Occupational Health, Online (GEOH) features a 45-credit, 16-course, multidisciplinary curriculum designed to develop the knowledge and skills that today’s public health leaders need.

• The program prepares graduates for careers at the intersection of global health, environmental health, and occupational health.
• The curriculum responds to the growing national demand for practitioners and researchers to be equipped to engage in the science, theory, and practice related to interconnected global, environmental, and occupational health needs, challenges, and opportunities. 
• Successful graduates enter a rapidly evolving public health arena as practitioners, researchers, administrators, and consultants addressing the health consequences of social and environmental change locally, nationally, and globally.

Program Features

Students engage in both academic coursework and practical experience.

• Fourteen credits (six courses) in evidence-based approaches to public health that include foundations of epidemiology and biostatistics, public health data, program and policy planning, implementation and evaluation, ethics and advocacy
• Eighteen credits (six courses) in global, environmental, and occupational health, infectious diseases, digital health, and global health governance and diplomacy
• Seven credits (two courses) in an applied practice experience that consists of a practicum (four credits) and capstone project (three credits)
• Six credits (two elective courses) that students choose from a selection of related topics

Overview

• Instruction provided by UMD faculty and professionals in the field.
• The program follows the semester academic calendar, with classes held during the 16-week fall and spring semesters and two six-week Summer Session. 

Online Learning

• For convenience and flexibility, the program features 100% online instruction with engaging and interactive learning.
• Using advanced audio and video technology, UMD’s online learning environment delivers dynamic and interactive content. 
• Lectures are recorded and archived to support asynchronous participation.

• Analyze the effects of social and environmental change on the interconnected health and well-being of people, animals, and plants from local to global scales.
