Fire Protection Engineering

Program admission criteria includes:

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)
• 2.5 Cumulative GPA
• Successful completion (C- or better) of Calculus 2 (MATH141) and a calculus-based Physics 1 course (PHYS161)
• Recommended: Successful completion (C- or better) of Differential Equations (MATH246) and Physics 2 with lab (PHYS260 and PHYS261)

Qualified applicants are admitted provisionally as non-degree-seeking undergraduate students and are coded with Fire Protection Engineering program information. A registration block is placed on the student's account until the required onboarding and advising steps are complete.

To receive full admission and remove the registration block, students must complete the requirements below. After requirements 1 and 2 are complete, the registration block will be removed, and students will receive registration instructions by email.

Registration for Fire Protection Engineering course sections is restricted to students admitted into the program.

Requirement 1: Activate and Access UMD Accounts

Complete the requirements found at Newly Admitted Students.

Requirement 2: Mandatory Academic Advising

Students are required to complete mandatory academic advising.

• To schedule an advising appointment, email the Associate Director, Nicole Hollywood, at nlholly@umd.edu.

Requirement 3: UMD Health Requirements

Comply with UMD Health Requirements. Students enrolled in a 100% online program are exempt from the university’s immunization requirement. This exemption applies to only students in fully online with no in-person classes or other on-campus participation.
