Commuter and Online Options
Student Life on Campus
After class, students are encouraged to explore campus and the many resources to which they have access. Among the world-class facilities to which Terp Young Scholars have access are the Maryland’s pools, Recreation Centers, TerpZone in the Stamp Student Union and the University’s six campus libraries.
Parking Permit
Students who would like to park on campus must purchase a parking permit. After being admitted to Terp Young Scholars, students can purchase a Summer Session II parking permit from the Department of Transportation Services (DOTS). Terp Young Scholars recommends purchasing a permit no later than the Monday prior to the program’s start date.
Before applying, students should ensure that they can fulfill the following technical requirements.
Internet Access, Minimum Connectivity
- Broadband (high-speed) minimum 3G or 4G Internet connection. If there are multiple devices using Wi-Fi, it may be helpful to obtain an Ethernet cable and connect the computer directly to the internet router with the Ethernet cable.
Minimum Operating Systems
- Windows 7 and newer
- Mac OS X 10.10 and newer
Browser Information
- Chrome 80 and 81
- Firefox 74 and 75 (Extended Releases are not supported)
- Edge 80 and 81
- Safari 12 and 13 (Macintosh only)
Designated Learning Space
- Online students should have access to a suitable location to engage in their online course. A student’s designated learning space will impact their own virtual learning experience, as well as that of their peers. The ideal designated learning space is free of noise, music, and other distractions.
Responsibilities and Expectations for All Terp Young Scholars
All students in the Terp Young Scholars program are expected to demonstrate independence and effective time management by attending classes, completing coursework, and seeking academic support from instructors, teaching assistants, and program staff as needed. While students are supervised both in-person and virtually, staff are also available outside of class, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, to answer questions and serve a resource for students.
